What is MENO.pause?
MENO.pause is a practical digital decision-aid designed for clinicians. It helps busy healthcare providers apply national menopause guidelines efficiently enabling them to confidently manage natural, cancer related or early menopause, and to deal with complications, such as unscheduled bleeding on HRT.
MENO.pause has been developed by a national team of specialist doctors and is based on trusted national guidelines, such as, from The British Menopause Society (BMS) and The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). It offers step-by-step guidance, including management of high-risk patients (e.g. cancer patients or those experiencing abnormal bleeding with HRT), and indicates when specialist referrals are necessary.
MENO.pause is free for all clinicians and accessible via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and a web interface.
Why was MENO.pause created?
Menopause is a natural phase of a woman’s life. Over 75% will experience symptoms that can significantly reduce their quality of life. The most common symptoms are hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, vaginal dryness and reduced sex drive.
Simple, cost-effective treatments like hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can help to alleviate symptoms. However many doctors face challenges when prescribing and managing menopause due to limited training and concerns around the safety of HRT. The demand for menopause care is substantial, with up to 13 million menopausal women in the UK. There are too few trained menopause specialists to meet this need, leading to long waits and inequalities in care.
The MENO.pause App was created to address these challenges, to help clinicians to confidently and safely manage menopause, and also to ensure appropriate and timely referral to specialist menopause and other secondary care services when needed.
